Wine of the Week for April 9, 2007

Tarapaca Sauvignon Blanc 2006 - $9.20
Style: W2
Maipo Valley, Chile

I'm continually impressed with what comes out of this winery, and their prices, across the board, are pretty easy to take. The nose shows classic sauvignon, with rich pink grapefruit pulp and meadow grass with nuances of lemongrass and rosemarie. Crisp and zesty on the palate, with ripe lemon/grapefruit flavour. Good body and length with a zippy close, it would go well with fish in cream sauce, alfredo, or stuffed mushrooms. (LCBO 414185)

If you're in the neighbourhood of Vineland Estates, I strongly recommend you try their 2004 Reserve Pinot Noir. We uncorked a bottle with Easter dinner and it was an absolute hit, even with the beer drinkers. A bit young -- and pricey ($40) -- but cellaring a few bottles for a couple of years would be well worthwhile.

Comment on the Tarapaca Sauvignon Blanc 2006
This is a wonderful wine!
The grapefruit/lemon/citrus come across strongly. Nice and crisp.
I served it with a seafood alfredo and it was just right.
And you can't complain about the price.
I will keep a few bottles around for this summer. I am sure that I will use this one regularly.
