Rene Barbier Mediterranean White 2005 - $8.65
Style: W2
Spain
Here's another Spanish bargain that will work well in a variety of settings. The nose shows very good stone fruit aromas with traces of citrus and melon. The palate has a refreshing acidity with gobs of ripe apple flavour. Very good body and length and a lightly tart finish. A good choice for light fish or Mediterranean-style sandwiches. (LCBO 332767)
Wine of the Week for August 13, 2007
Castillo de Almansa Reserva 2002 - $ 11.10
Style: R3
Spain: La Mancha
The full black cherry colour suggests a hearty wine, but the emphasis here is on practicality and utilitarian enjoyment . The nose seems somewhat simple at first, but shows ample black raspberry and traces of black currant and mushroom. The palate is smooth, with fullish body, firm tannins and a solid acid core. Not overly exciting, but perfect for a Tuesday evening meal. Try with eggplant parmesan, burgers or lamb sausage. (LCBO 270363)
